Margaret Haddix Vistis

Today Margaret Haddix visited and talked about her books. Many of us, including myself, had never read her books before and it was a wonderful opportunity to learn about a new series. Everyone in the class left the talk with at least one book we wanted to read. The library has many of her books and will be ordering more!

Today, instead of Chapel, the whole Lower School read. We went to our buddy classrooms and read for 40 minutes. Here are a few pictures from this morning's excitement.

Also, we celebrated Kaan's birthday this afternoon. Here are a few pictures from that celebration. Happy Birthday Kaan.

Last days of fall

We are enjoying these last warm days of fall before the rain starts by reading outside. You can catch us a couple afternoons a week before pick up outside in a tree or hammock, on the stairs or sprawled under a tree deeply immersed in our book of the week.

Responding to Tiger Rising

Students continue to practice taking notes while reading. We are listening to and reading by ourselves chapters from The Tiger Rising to help model and build this practice. Good readers stop and think while reading. They think about larger messages, themes, symbolism and chraacter development. We can use notes on connections, questions, important parts, and inferences to help us find these big ideas in our texts.
