Students, things to remember for the first day of school!

Things to Bring on the First Day of School

  1. Bring a book to read if you have one handy.  If not, we have plenty in our classroom library and our shared library for you to choose from.
  2. Remember to turn in your summer reading list if you filled one out.  If you have lost the form, write out titles of books you have read and we’ll turn the lists into the library from our room.  I would like to find out what you’ve read this summer, and if you found anything exciting that we might like to read, I would love to know.
  3. A picture of yourself from this summer or the past few months. Be ready to talk about your picture and a wondering this experience prompted.

Parents, Welcome to 4th Grade!

September 2, 2015
Dear Parents,
Welcome to a new chapter – life with a fourth grader!  We are looking forward to an exciting year and hope your child is, too.  As always, the first few weeks of school feel extremely busy.  However, minimal homework during the first week will help your child learn schedules and adjust to the daily routines of school again.  We ask for your help during this time in establishing the good habit of arriving in class at 7:50 A.M., ready to learn, and with all materials needed from home.
During this first month of school we will help your child create constructive and respectful relationships in class and throughout the OES community. Imagine the excitement and challenge of living much of your life in one room with 17 other people -- it takes exceptional teamwork to be successful. Research indicates that positive human relationships engender creative learning among children and adults, and we aim to foster these in all of the 4th grade classrooms this year.

We look forward to seeing you at the Back To School Picnic on Friday, Sept. 18th, from 5:00-7:00 P.M. We will give you additional information about the fourth grade curriculum at the Back-To-School Night on Monday, Sept. 21st, from 6:00-7:30 P.M.
We have enclosed a questionnaire for you to fill out and return during the first week of school to help us understand your child better as the year begins. Also, if you would like to sign up for a brief chat about your child, we are available for 10-15 minute time slots after school during the first week. A sign-up chart will be available in each room on Tuesday, September 8th during open classroom time, between 9:00-11:00 A.M. We have found that this meeting really helps us get off to a good start, and we encourage you to sign up.  Enjoy the last days of summer!

Sincerely,
Chris Thompson, Rachel Taylor, Asha Sathyaraj
